Ideas, I have 'em sometimes...

I have been thinking about a “homage” series for a while. A work I have always liked is Colin McCahon’s “Here I give thanks to Mondrian”. So this is the first in an occasional series. Keep coming back for more.

Oh, yes, this is called, to start the series, “Here I give thanks to McCahon”. And yes, it is a photograph.

naturally one glance and i think "ooh very colin mccahon", but interestingly it does read like you giving thanks tho mccahon giving thanks to mondrian - esp with those colours, not really mccahon's typical dark broodiness.

That's the thing. So much of what people think of McCahon is the dark, broodiness that we see a lot of. But he was so much more and I think he had a great way with colour suchj as in "Mondrian's Lat Chrysanthemum: Scared", "The King of the Jews" and "Venus and re-entry: the bleeding heart of Jesus is seen above Ahipara".

I think it's time to champion his other work. That and I have yet to do a "smudged" one in monochromatic shades that I like....
